store garlic

What is the best way to store garlic?

The best way to store garlic is in a cool, dry place with good air circulation. Here are tips on how to store garlic and how long it will keep.

  • Whole Bulbs – To store whole garlic bulbs, keep them in a mesh bag, basket, or paper bag. Avoid plastic bags because they trap moisture. When stored at room temperature (60-65°F), with low humidity and out of direct sunlight, whole bulbs can last for 3 to 5 months.
  • Separated Cloves – If you’ve separated the cloves from the garlic bulb, store them in a dry, well-ventilated container. This helps keep them fresh. For the best flavor, use the separated cloves within a week or two.
  • Peeled Cloves – Store peeled garlic cloves in an airtight container in the refrigerator. This keeps them fresh. Use the peeled cloves within a week for the best taste.
  • Chopped or Minced Garlic – Store chopped or minced garlic in an airtight container in the refrigerator. This helps keep it fresh. Use the chopped or minced garlic within a day or two for the best flavor.
  • Frozen Garlic – You can store whole garlic bulbs, individual cloves (peeled or unpeeled), or minced garlic in the freezer. Frozen garlic can last up to 6 months. Freezing might change the texture a bit, but it will keep the flavor.
