Simple Buffalo Sauce – A simple sauce that is slightly spicy, with a little heat and a nice buttery texture. This buffalo sauce is a milder and more sumptuous form of hot sauce and tastes amazing smothered over chicken wings or used to replace traditional hot sauce.
Chicken wings are one of our families favorite finger foods. Whenever there’s a game on you’re sure to find a plate of chicken wings. One of our favorite ways to season the wings is with buffalo sauce, I don’t mean the kind that is bottled, I mean real authentic buffalo sauce, made at home.
Before I share this delicious, finger lickin’ buffalo sauce recipe, you should know that buffalo sauce isn’t just for wings, there are so many other delicious ways that it can be used. For instance, you might want to try it over some cauliflower, or as a sauce for a pizza. One of my favorite ways to use it though, is a sauce for my grilled cheese sandwich, it’s amazing. If you want more ideas on other uses you should check out Pinterest there are a lot of ideas there.
What unique way would you use the buffalo sauce?
Simple Buffalo Sauce
Franks Red Hot Sauce: I use Franks hot pepper sauce because it was the secret ingredient in the original buffalo sauce that was created back in 1964. In my opinion, Franks is the only pepper sauce that will give you that true, authentic buffalo flavor.
Butter: Truthfully, you could get away with eliminating the butter, but I don’t suggest doing it. Yes it may be a little less fattening, but the butter adds a really nice flavor to the sauce as well as acting as a binder, helping the sauce to stick to the wings.
Tabasco Sauce: This ingredient is totally optional, it was never an ingredient in the original buffalo sauce. The reason I suggest using it is for those who really like some heat. The flavor of the Tabasco is one of the only sauces that I’ve found that compliments the flavor of buffalo sauce.
Instructions
Step 1: Combine the Frank’s red hot sauce, butter, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and cayenne pepper in a medium sauce pan. Cook over medium heat until the butter melts, then simmer for 5 minutes, stirring often.
Step 2: Remove the pan from heat and allow to cool for a few minutes, the sauce will thicken as it cools. Stir in salt and add Tabasco sauce if you desire more heat.

Tips
✔ This recipe makes enough sauce to cover about 5 pounds of chicken wings. Plus there will be a little leftover for dipping.
✔ To kick up the heat, add Tabasco sauce a few drops at a time until you reach the desired heat level.
✔ Refrigerate leftover sauce in an air-tight container for 1-2 weeks.
✔ If the sauce separates, put it in the microwave for a minute it will smooth out the sauce.
