Vanilla Uses

This weeks WWII post is all about vanilla. One of my favorite uses, other than baking, is the one where it is used as a perfume. When we were coming up with this weeks list my mom told me that when she was little my grandma would use it as a perfume.  To this day my mom always associates the smell of vanilla with my grandma.

Vanilla Uses

In addition, you can use vanilla to wipe down the inside of your microwave to eliminate any smells. I would love to hear any special ways that you use vanilla.

Vanilla Uses

Vanilla beans can be very expensive at your local grocery store. The last time I checked they were around $6.99 for 4 beans. If you use a lot of vanilla beans or want to make vanilla extract for gifts try checking online, you can find some great deals.

** If, by some small miracle, you worked at Amway in Ada, MI in the 1980;s and were the person my mother loaned the notebook to, please contact me. The notebook is a small (approx 6×9), black leather, 3-ring binder, and contains hand drawn patterns (teddy bear), recipes, and household tips and tricks. It would mean so much to my family to have it back.

What wonderful tips for using vanilla! How fun to use it as a perfume, although I think if I did I would be constantly craving a cookie or something else yummy – I really love the smell of it! Thanks for sharing your fun list.

I have heard of a few of these (using vanilla in paint, as a perfume) but not others- I thought mosquitos would like the smell of vanilla! Very cool post– and it is interesting to realize that there are other ways to use a common household item!

I am visiting you from The Gathering Spot Blog Hop.

Love the tips. Vanilla here in Honduras, is $1 for a 16 oz. bottle. Everyone that comes here, buys bottles for gifts and for themselves. It's pure vanilla.

We may have met by chance…but we become friends by choice.

I never heard of the bug repellent – I will definitely try this during mosquito season. I use cheap vanilla to soak cotton fabric to age it. Smells like my granny!

Can you use vanilla in your cabinets to scent them and to make your kitchen smell yummy? If so how would I do that and is there a certain kind of vanilla that you use? Thank you.

That’s a good idea, I’ve never done it myself! You might want to try using pure vanilla sprinkled on a cotton ball.
