I think that I have just about every color in the rainbow of nail polish colors. The funny thing is, I hardly ever wear it because of all of the crafting, remodeling and refinishing that I do. It’s really hard to keep your nails looking nice with all that. However, my 2 year old glambaby loves it, she picks out a new color almost every time we go to the store. It always seems like a waste buying a new color, but it makes her happy and that’s what counts.
The last time I bought her some new nail polish it made me wonder if there were any household tips that my grandmother had. I sent out the call to family and friends, and like always they came back with a huge list of unusual uses.
Now I don’t feel like I’m wasting money every time I buy the glambaby a new color.
- Bug Bites – to relieve the itching, apply a dab of clear
nail polish to the bite. - Cuts – to seal, apply a little clear nail polish to the
wound. It’s just like liquid band-aids. - Warts – to remove, keep a coat of clear nail polish on it
for a week. Don’t use the nail polish for anything else because it could spread
the virus.
Beauty & Fashion
- Buttons – to secure, put a drop of clear nail polish on the
threads. - Fabric – to keep it from fraying, apply a little clear nail
polish to the area. - Jewelry – to repair loose stones, apply a drop of clear nail
polish to the setting and set the stone. - Leather Shoes – to seal scuffs, use a matching color or
clear nail polish to cover the scuffs. - Pantyhose – to keep from running, apply a little clear nail
polish to both ends of the run. - Shoe Laces – to keep them from fraying, apply a coat of nail
polish to the ends.
Cleaning & Repairs
- Car – to keep chips from rusting, apply a coat of clear nail
polish to the area. - Furniture – to smooth splinters, apply a couple of thin
coats of clear nail polish to the area. - Glass – to repair small nicks, apply a thick coat of clear
nail polish to the area. - Jewelry – to prevent tarnishing, brush a thin coat of clear
nail polish to it before wearing. Of course, let it dry first. - Metal Cans – to keep them from leaving a rust ring, apply a
coat of clear nail polish to the exposed metal. - Rope – to keep it from fraying, apply a coat of nail polish
to the ends. - Screws – to give them extra hold, coat the screw with nail
polish before using. - Screws – to keep them from rusting, apply a coat of clear
nail polish to the head. - Strings – to keep it from fraying, apply a coat of nail
polish to the ends. - Toilet Seat – to keep the screws from rusting, apply a
couple of coats of clear nail polish to the screws. - Window Screens – to fix small tears, seal the area with a
little clear nail polish. - Windshield – to keep a crack from spreading, apply clear
nail polish on the inside and outside of the crack. - Wood Floors – to fix scratches, fill the scratches with some
clear nail polish.
Miscellaneous
- Containers – to mark levels, use some bright colored nail
polish to mark the levels. - Envelopes – to seal, apply some clear nail polish instead of
licking it. - Glue – to adhere objects together, use a little clear nail
polish. - Keys – to keep them organized, paint a different color nail
polish on each one. - Labels – to keep them from smudging, coat the labels with
some clear nail polish. - Matches – to waterproof, apply some clear nail polish to the
tips. - Needles – to thread, dip the end of the thread in a little
nail polish before threading. - Salt Shaker – to control the amount, paint over a few of the
holes with some nail polish. - Shower knob – to mark a comfortable temperature, use a
little colored nail polish to mark the spot. - Thermostat – to mark a comfortable temperature, use a
little colored nail polish to mark the spot.

Awesome tips! Haha I agree, it's hard to do your nails when you're doing projects all the time!

This was fun, Robin! I love your WWII series. I've used some of these tips. When I was a kid, I always heard to put nail polish on a tick and it would smother and fall off. Thankfully, I never had to try that one. 😀 Thank you for sharing this at Treasure Box Tuesday! 🙂
