I was organizing my storage shelves the other day and realized that I had over 10 cans of shaving cream. No I’m not a hoarder, I’m a bargain shopper. I can’t resist a sale, especially if I can buy them for just pennies a can. Usually I don’t have this many, but somehow my shelves got disheveled and I just kept buying more, I’m blaming the kids for the messy shelves, they haven’t really caught on to organization yet. All of these cans made me think, hmmm, I wonder if my grandmother had any WWII frugal living tips for using shaving cream. So, I sent out THE email to my family and a few close friends and they started blowing up my inbox with some really great uses.

Isn’t this a great vintage picture from the 1940’s?

Now, before I share with you all of these brilliant uses for shaving cream, I must warn you, if you use the gel kind you are going to have a real mess on your hands. These tips are intended to save you a little money and make your life a little easier. This series is to help you BUST the FLUSTER, not create it, so be sure that the can you are using says CREAM, like the Barbasol one does.

* If, by some small miracle, you worked at Amway in Ada, MI in the 1980’s and were the person my mother loaned the notebook to, please Contact Me. The notebook is a small (aprox. 6″x9″) black leather, 3-ring binder, and contains hand drawn patterns (teddy bear), recipes and household tips and tricks. It would mean so much to my family to have it back.

Scented or unscented shaving cream is excellent after a gym work- out. Lather your sweaty areas with shaving cream, rinse with water and use your regular soap. I am telling you it works. It also is good for strong adult urine body smells. People who wear depends or diapers.

In the Army, we used to use the shaving cream on a new pair of combat boots to break them in, but that was the old style black leather ones. I've used it on new motorcycle boots too!
