Home Organization Challenge: Day 21 – Monthly Challenges

I’m so excited to be starting the monthly Home Organization Challenges, this is my favorite of all of the challenges. Before I started organizing my home, with this system, my cleaning routine was spending a couple of days cleaning one room from top to bottom. By the time I was done with the room, I was exhausted and didn’t even want to think about the next room. When I finally did get through all of the rooms, it was time to start on the first one again. It was a frustrating cycle! With this system I spend no more than 30-minutes a day in a room and I end up with the same results. Are you curious?

Day 21 – Monthly Challenges
Every room in your home has a list of things that need to be cleaned. Some things don’t need to be cleaned as often as others, but at some point everything needs to be cleaned. I’ve been stressing throughout the challenges how important lists are to getting organized. Well, none of the lists that we’ve created so far are as important as the lists that we’re going to create this week.
Today’s challenge is a BIG one, it’s actually a 2-part challenge. Over the next few days we’re going to be spending some time on these 2-challenges by creating a list of things that need to be done in each room of our homes. Once we’ve created our lists, we’re going to decide how often each item needs to be cleaned. By the end of the week we’ll begin tackling them.
Here is what we’ll be doing this week in each room in our homes:
Part 1 – Create a cleaning list for each room in your home
  • Grab a pen a paper
  • Take a seat in the middle of the room
  • List everything that needs to be cleaned in that room, starting at the ceiling and work your way down.
Part 2 – Decide how often each item on you list needs to be cleaned
Go through each item on your list and decide how often it needs to be cleaned.
  • Every month
  • Every 3-months
  • Every 6-months
  • Once a year
*If it needs to be done everyday or every week, add that task to your daily or weekly lists.

Stop by tomorrow, we’ll be creating our first detailed cleaning lists for the Kitchen and Dining Room.
