Owning wooden furniture can bring a nice touch to any home. You’ll be able to bring an antique yet natural vibe to your patio or living area! But the problem would be cleaning it. Unlike other types of material, wood is natural and may need different types of cleaning materials and processes in order to keep it looking great and lasting for years to come! So how exactly can you clean wood furniture efficiently? To help you out, I give you my top five wood furniture cleaning tips!

Top Five Wood Furniture Cleaning Tips

1. Use the Right Cleaning Materials

If you are planning to invest in cleaning materials for your wooden furniture, make sure that it is safe to add on wood. Some harsh cleaning materials have chemicals that would tarnish the wood and leave it looking worn.

We recommend you to invest in softer solutions, or to create your own if you have the time. Lessen the spray polish and if you like a nice smell, use air freshener instead.

2. Dust with Direction

Dusting using one direction from the grain will help keep the wooden pattern stay for years to come.

3. Wipe Using Quality Cloth

Make sure that you use soft cloth. While any soft cloth is okay, you will want to use one made out of microfibres. These cloths hang to dust while wiping your furniture, so you won’t need to worry about it simply shifting it to somewhere else on your furniture.

4. Wash Furniture Once a Year

Do a whole and complete wash once a year to keep your furniture looking shiny and new. Use mild soap solution when washing your furniture.

Rinse it off well, then wipe it dry. Polish it if you want, but make sure you use the same type to avoid your furniture from drying out.

5. Make Your Own Cleaning Solution

You can make your own cleaning solution  that’s safe on wooden furniture:

3 tablespoons boiled linseed oil
2 tablespoons turpentine
1 quart hot water

In Conclusion

Wood furniture is one of the best ways to give personal and natural vibe to your home. Many people even opt to create their own wooden furniture and taking on DIY projects, buy wood routers and other equipment to create something handmade and beautiful.

But once you have the nicely made wood furniture in your home, it’s also very important to clean it for it to keep looking great and free from damage. Hopefully, these tips will help you know how to clean your wood furniture without the hassle. So if your home needs spring cleaning, then follow these wood furniture cleaning tips today!

This is fantastic! I believe using the right products and materials is key for cleaning wood furniture. Using just any cleaning product can indeed damage the wood… I look forward to trying out linseed oil and turpentine on my next house cleaning day, thanks!

I never knew that you should wash furniture once a year. I would have thought to never wash it! But, I can see how that would really give it a new shine, like you said.

I really appreciate your tip to get a brusher that will make your wooden furniture look soft. My wife and I recently inherited some new furniture from my grandmother, and we want to put it in our dining room. I will be sure to tell my wife that we should try and finish it so it looks softer!
