13 Sore Muscle Home Remedies

Have you ever woke up with a stiff neck? Last week I woke up with one, I could barely move and wow did it hurt. I don’t remember doing anything strenuous that would have caused it, so it must have been the way that I slept.

I went to the chiropractor to get some relief and it didn’t help much, I was still in a lot of pain. I headed home and decided to try a couple of grandma’s home remedies. I use her home remedies on my husband and kids and they always work so they ought to give me some relief.

One day I’ll learn to try grandma’s home remedies first, not only are they a great way to save money but they usually work a lot better.

  1. Place a bundle of mint
in a piece of cheesecloth and drop into
    your bathwater.
  2. Rub muscles with rubbing
    alcohol
    to relieve pain.
  3. Massage a generous amount of Vick’s
    VapoRub
     on sore muscles.
  4. To relieve aches and pains add 3 cups apple cider vinegar
    to bath water.
  5. To soothe pain, make a paste using petroleum
    jelly
and a few drops of eucalyptus oil or peppermint oil. Warm the paste
in the microwave and massage sore muscles.
  6. Rub muscles with clove
    oil to relieve discomfort.
  7. Soak in a hot bath with 2 cups of dissolved Epsom
    salt
    .
  8. Rub muscles with a homemade ginger
massage oil. To make your own, place 1 cup olive oil in a small saucepan, add an inch of
thinly slices of fresh ginger, than add 10 dried rosebuds.
Heat on low for 30 minutes.
  9. Take a warm shower.
  10. Eat foods high in magnesium, like pumpkin seeds, squash,
    black beans and almonds.
  11. Mix 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
in an 8 ounce glass of water, drink it down.
  12. Everyday, drink a cup of coffee
    mixed with 1 tablespoon molasses.
  13. Rub muscles with an ointment made with ½ teaspoon cayenne
    pepper with 1 cup olive
    oil
    .
**Always consult a doctor before trying any home treatments.

With a husband who has a physically demanding job and kids in sports, we have our share of sore muscles. I think that we have tried just about every one of these home remedies at one point or another. How do you do to treat sore muscles at home?

Thank you for this list! I'm a mom of 4 and I often wake up with sore muscles I didn't know I had! I am going to implement some of these today! (visiting from 3 boys and a Dog)

Thanks for posting. I have Fibromyalgia & painful muscles are one of many issues. I love the idea of trying natural & home remedies before resorting to medication but can't use things with menthol & many other things. This list has options I didn't know. Will try some. Do you have subscriptions through email? Doesn't look like it but thought it wouldn't hurt to check.

Thanks for the list. Just a side note that I’ve had to go to chiropractors since I was a kid back in the 70s. They are not all the same! Some will twist you into a pretzel but you will get relief faster. Others are more gentle but results are slow. Keep looking & find one you are happy with. Many times I get relief on the 1st visit. I love mine & would rather go to her than a spa!
