A simple Teriyaki Chicken recipe

Planning meals for the week is a lifesaver, but sometimes I just can’t be bothered to spend hours in the kitchen. That’s why I always include quick and easy recipes in my lineup. I mean, who wants to resort to take-out when you’ve got options, right?

As a mom of three active boys, I’ve honed my skills in whipping up meals that require minimal effort but still pack a punch in flavor. Okay, let’s be real, some of my “recipes” are just throwing together pre-made ingredients and calling it a day. But hey, it works!

SIMPLE INGREDIENTS

Are you craving a scrumptious Teriyaki Chicken Bowl for dinner tonight? We’ve got you covered! All you need are a few budget-friendly ingredients that you can easily snag at any supermarket. And if you’re a super savvy shopper, you’ll know how to take advantage of sweet sales prices to save even more. Plus, if your pantry is already loaded with staples like rice, you’re already halfway there! Simply grab the missing ingredients from our list and get cooking.

Boneless Chicken Breasts

When selecting a chicken breast, it is important to look for a fresh, plump piece of meat with a light pink color. Avoid any chicken that has a yellow, green, or grayish hue, as this may indicate spoilage. Properly stored in the refrigerator, a chicken breast can last for up to 2 days, while freezing can extend its shelf life to up to 6 months.

Vegetable Oil

Vegetable oil is a type of oil commonly used in cooking and baking. It is derived from different plant sources such as soybeans, sunflowers, corn, canola, and palm. Unlike animal-based oils, vegetable oil contains no cholesterol, and most varieties are low in saturated fats, making it a popular choice for health-conscious individuals.

Oriental Vegetables

Oriental vegetables, also known as Asian vegetables, include a diverse range of green leafy vegetables, root vegetables, and fruits commonly used in Asian cuisine. These vegetables offer a unique blend of flavors and textures, making them a popular addition to any meal.

Rice

Long-grain white rice is a popular staple food that is enjoyed by people from all over the world. It is a type of rice that is known for its long and slender appearance, delicate flavor, and distinct texture. This type of rice is the most commonly consumed rice in the United States and is an essential ingredient in many traditional dishes from various cultures.

Teriyaki Sauce

Teriyaki sauce is a traditional Japanese condiment that has become popular in countries all over the world. This savory sauce is made by combining soy sauce, sugar, mirin (a type of rice wine), and sometimes sake (a Japanese rice wine). These ingredients are boiled together until the mixture forms a thick, syrupy sauce that is bursting with flavor.

SIMPLE INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAKING TERIYAKI CHICKEN BOWLS

  1. Cook rice according to package directions.
  2. In a skillet or wok, heat oil over medium heat, add chicken and cook until no longer pink.
  3. While the chicken is cooking prepare the vegetables according to package directions.
  4. When the chicken is done, stir in the teriyaki sauce and heat for 1-2 minutes.

HOW TO SERVE TERIYAKI CHICKEN BOWLS

Are you ready to create a delicious teriyaki chicken bowl? The key is all in the layering. Start with a cup of steaming hot rice and top it off with juicy teriyaki chicken and a side of crisp, colorful steamed vegetables. Want to take the flavor up a notch? Drizzle some extra teriyaki sauce on top for a mouthwatering finish. Get ready to savor every bite!

MAKE IT A MEAL

Appetizer/Starter: Egg Drop Soup
Entrée: Teriyaki Chicken Bowls
Side Dish #1: Egg Rolls
Drink: Matcha Soda
Dessert: Almond Cookies

HOW TO STORE THE LEFTOVERS

It stays fresh in the fridge for about 3 days, giving you delicious and healthy options all week long. Plus, you have flexibility – store it with or without the rice – just make sure to let everything cool before transferring it to an airtight container.

SIMPLE AND DELICIOUS VARIATIONS

  • Swap the chicken breast for tofu to make a vegetarian version of the teriyaki bowl.
  • Before cooking, marinate the chicken in the teriyaki sauce for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors seep into the meat. This will result in a tastier and more tender chicken.
  • Use a blend of white and brown rice to add more flavor and texture to the dish.
  • For a protein-packed twist, try using quinoa instead of rice.
  • Instead of using frozen oriental vegetables, use fresh vegetables like bell peppers, carrots, and broccoli for a healthier and tastier twist.
  • Try making your own teriyaki sauce by combining soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, garlic, and ginger to give the dish a homemade touch.
  • Add some spice to the teriyaki sauce by mixing in some chili paste or flakes.
  • For a low-carb option, substitute the rice with cauliflower rice or zucchini noodles.
  • Grilling or stir-frying the chicken results in a more flavorful and tender meat.
  • For a bit of crunch, add some toasted sesame seeds or crushed cashews as a garnish.
