Bread is one of the most common foods that enrich our everyday lives. It is something that we usually can’t live without. And because the artisan bread is one of the most famous no-knead breads due to its crunchy crust and heavenly taste, we decided to make one for ourselves too! Here’s our version of the artisan bread recipe.
The artisan bread is simple and easy to do that you can even do it with your kids. The ingredients are very common so you don’t have to go very far. You can even find them in your pantry! Let’s get started!
You will Need:
Parchment paper
Silicone spatula or wooden spoon
Large mixing bowl
Cling wrap or cloth
Oven-safe pan or container
Ingredients:
- 3 cups of flour
- 1 cup extra flour
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 2 tbsp of dry active yeast
- 2 tbsp of salt
Directions:
Preparing the Dough
- Mix the 1 1/2 cups of warm water with the 2 tbsp of dry active yeast. Let it sit for about 1-2 minutes.
- In a large mixing bowl, mix the dry ingredients together: 2 tbsp of salt, 3 cups of flour and add the water with the yeast.
- Using a wooden spoon or silicone spatula, mix everything well and make sure that the water is absorbed by the mixture until it forms a sticky dough.
- Cover the bowl with cling wrap or a cloth and leave it to rise for 8 hour, 12 hours or up to 24 hours (overnight). It depends on how long you’d like to wait to let the dough rise.
Tips:
- You can also use your hands in mixing as it may be easier for you.
- You can add herbs and spices like garlic powder, rosemary, thyme, basil, parsley, etc.
- Any type of flour will do.
- This recipe is good for 1 piece of bread. You can double up the flour if you plan to make different batches as the dough can be stored for up to 2 weeks in your fridge.
Baking the Bread
- Sprinkle some flour over the counter or on a flat board to prevent it from sticking and carefully place the dough onto it by carefully removing it from the mixing bowl.
- Put some flour on your hands so you can partially knead the dough. Knead by doing a letter fold and them making a circular ball by rotating the dough and pulling it gently on the side and tucking some of the dough underneath. Place it on parchment paper and cover it with a cloth and leave it for another 2 hours. Note: During the last 30 minutes, preheat oven to 450°F.
- Put slices over the dough. You can create a pattern or just make 3 diagonal slices. Take 1 cup of water and put it in an oven-safe container and place it under the top drawer of your oven. This will create steam to make the bread’s crust very crunchy.
- Bake at 450°F for 30 minutes and then let it cool on a rack or on a plate. You can slice it and serve.
Tips:
- It goes well with butter and cheese or with a cup of hot coffee or cocoa.
- You can also place butter over the ought with sesame seeds before baking.
