- 1 14.75 ounce canned salmon (drained)
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon spicy brown mustard
- 1/2 onion chopped
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
In a mixing bowl, break up the canned salmon until there are no large chunks. Add the egg, brown mustard, chopped onion, and bread crumbs. Gently stir until everything is well mixed.
Divide the mixture into 4 equal parts. Use your hands and gently press each part into a patty shape. Make sure they are the same size to cook evenly.
Pour oil into a skillet and heat it over medium heat. Place the patties in the skillet, the oil should sizzle but not smoke. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Be careful when flipping to keep them from breaking. Once cooked, remove from the skillet and let them cool slightly before serving.
Add-In Ideas:
- Chopped herbs (e.g., parsley, dill, cilantro) for added freshness.
- Lemon zest for a citrusy zing.
- Minced garlic for extra flavor depth.
- Finely diced bell peppers for color and crunch.
- Shredded cheese (e.g., cheddar, mozzarella) for a gooey center.
- Capers for a tangy kick.
- Hot sauce or red pepper flakes for some heat.
- Grated Parmesan cheese for a savory touch.
- Chopped olives for a briny taste.
- Panko breadcrumbs instead of regular breadcrumbs for extra crunch.
Pair with seasoned rice and roasted broccoli for a complete, budget-friendly meal.
