We recently decided to do a new bedroom design for our teenage sons room and give it a complete overhaul. When we first started coming up with ideas our son was really set on painting his room black. I’ve seen black rooms that looked gorgeous, but as a mom I wanted lighter colors because I’ve learned that color can effect your mood. When I think of dark, heavy colors, it makes me think of depression and anger and that is something that we didn’t want to project in his room.
We met a lot of resistance from our son before he finally compromised on a gray color palette with black and bright green accents. We approached him with our idea for a few different reasons. The first being that the gray was light and bright and kept away from the dark, depressing black that he wanted to plaster all over his room. The black was chosen to satisfy his need to have black in the room and to use it as our anchor color, for the furniture, comforters and curtains. To bring some color into the room we chose bright green as the accent color, we got the idea from all of his Xbox games and equipment. Once he realized that the colors were coming from his love of Xbox we had him hooked.
Now that the color palette has been chosen this is where the real work begins.

Great idea to link it to his love of Xbox! I think it is a nice color combo for a teens room.
