Pizza is one of our favorite foods, in fact, Friday nights are our designated Pizza Night. For years this has been a tradition in my mom’s home and now in ours. Sometimes we’ll order our pizza from a local pizza joint but most of the time we’ll make it at home like my mom did. Making it yourself is a little more work but we have so much fun doing it ourselves and it seems to taste so much better. One of the things that the kids love doing, okay me too, is experimenting with different sauces, toppings and cheeses. We’ve come up with some really delicious combinations and we’ve had some epic fails as well, but it’s always fun trying to come up with the winning pizza.
Pizza night consists of me, and sometimes the kids, making the dough, using my mom’s recipe. When the dough has finally risen, each family member stretches their own dough, tops it with their favorite toppings and bakes it on the pizza stone in our oven. Then as each pizza comes out of the oven we divide it up so that we can all try it. When all of the pizza’s have been sampled, by everyone, we take a vote on who created the best pizza. The winner of the pizza challenge gets out of doing the dishes for the whole weekend.
A couple of weeks ago, Pillsbury sent me a pizza challenge and because we consider ourselves pizza aficionados we took them up on it. The challenge was to make our pizza on the grill, using the Pillsbury Classic Pizza Crust. I was a little apprehensive at first because, for one, I’ve never grilled a pizza and for two, we’ve always made our own pizza dough, but we gave it a shot. In fact, we even tried one of the Pillsbury recipes that they have on their website.

I have to say I’m very impressed. The Pillsbury Classic Pizza Crust is really yummy, it doesn’t have that doughy taste like some of the pre-made or boxed pizza crusts do. Grilling the pizza crust, it’s a new tradition that we’ll definitely be adding to our Friday Pizza Night. I love, love, love how the crust turned out when you grill it, it has a little crunch to it and the grill adds a new layer of flavor that you just don’t get from the oven.
