Cleaning is an ever growing business with over $170 billion spent every year (Bureau of Labor Statistics). It’s no wonder that my heart about stops every time I walk the cleaning isle. The thing that really Flusters me though is the advertisements. They all claim that their products are the best, rarely is that the case. However, I’ve found a way to have the best and save money.
Take a look at the labels of your favorite brands, half of the ingredients you can’t pronounce, let alone know what they do. Surprisingly, many of those ingredients on the label are the scientific names for common household products. For example, vinegar goes by the scientific names: dilute acetic acid, ethanoic acid, hydrogen acetate, methanecarboxylic acid.
Now to further Fluster you! Did you know many of the ingredients in these products don’t do a darn thing? They’re fillers. If fillers weren’t add you would use less of the product and not have to buy it as often. Tricky, tricky manufacturers, now we know why it’s $170 billion a year industry.
To keep my money out of these greedy manufacturers pockets I started making many of my own cleaning products, starting with laundry detergent. I was so happy with the results, and that I didn’t have to use as much to get the job done, I started experimenting with other home-made cleaners. Here are some of my favorites.
