Today we are going to do something a little different. Instead of doing a Home Organization Challenge, we’re going to create a tool that will help us stay organized throughout the year. One thing that successful people have in common is that they have some kind of a system for keeping track of appointments, responsibilities, tasks and so much more. Many of them use planners to keep track of everything. Today we are going to begin creating our own planner that is specifically tailored for OUR responsibilities.
Today’s Challenges: (don’t forget to celebrate after each challenge)

- Piles Away (laundry)
- Ready for Anything (get ready)
- Fairy Clean (bathroom)
- Get an Attitude (breakfast)
- Sailing Smoothly (planning)

- 20/20 (de-cluttering)
Below, I show you how I’ve set up my Reminder Binder, it’s what works for me. My system may not work for you, and that’s okay, the important thing is that you set up a Reminder Binder that helps you to stay on track.
Supplies to build a Reminder Binder:
- A Binder – The binder that works for me is 3-ring, made of a durable fabric, has built in pouches and zips shut. There are many different options, at various prices, just choose one that works for you and your budget. If you already have one put it to work and save yourself some green.
- Blank Pocket Dividers (8 pack) – I use these to divide my Reminder Binder into sections.
- Monthly Dividers – These have the months of the year printed on them. If you can’t find them try using blank dividers and just write the months on them.
- Paper (lined and/or printer) – I use the printer paper for permanent lists. The lined paper is used for lists or items that are always evolving (ex. to-do list).
- Sheet Protectors – I use these for my checklists. I prefer the smooth ones because they are easier to erase the dry erase markers from.
- Dry Erase Markers (1) – You can find these in many different colors.
Sections in your Reminder Binder:
- Daily – In this section we will place all of our daily responsibilities. These are the things that we need to complete on a daily basis to keep our lives running smoothly.
- Weekly – This is where you will keep a list of things that need to be completed on a weekly basis. We will be learning more about this in an upcoming challenge.
- Calendar – This is where you will place your monthly dividers. I’ll be sharing some tips with you in an upcoming challenge.
- Monthly – This is the section where you will keep all of your detailed, cleaning checklists. These checklists will be stored in sheet protectors so that you can mark them off, with a dry erase marker, when they’ve been completed. Before the end of the Home Organization Challenge, you’ll learn how to easily create a list for each room in your home.
- To-Do – In this section, you’ll place several pieces of lined paper. Every morning when you are completing your Sailing Smoothly challenge, you’ll list the things that you need to complete that day.
- Menus – Menus are a great way to save time and to never be at a loss when you are asked “What’s for dinner?” I personally keep 6 weeks of menus along with shopping lists, in this section.
- Budget – In this section I keep all of my bills (in the pocket divider), along with a printed copy of my budget, account numbers and contact information.
- Miscellaneous – This section is for whatever you want. I have: notes, projects, ideas, prayer lists, gift lists and my home inventory lists. I also have a hard copy of phone numbers and address’, just in case I ever lose my phone.
